Gabriela Montero with the Calidore Quartet: Canaima

Artist in Residence

Gabriela Montero wearing a colourful dress sitting by a piano

Celebrated Venezuelan pianist and composer Gabriela Montero is joined by the Calidore Quartet for a programme of chamber music including a new work, Canaima, by Montero herself.

The concert opens with Haydn’s radiant String Quartet in D major showcasing his signature elegance and wit. At the heart of the programme is the world premiere of Canaima, a vivid new work by Montero inspired by the majestic landscapes and ecological fragility of Venezuela’s Canaima National Park. The evening concludes with Dvořák’s much-loved Piano Quintet No 2 a Romantic-era gem filled with soaring melodies, folk rhythms, and spirited interplay between piano and strings.

This unique collaboration offers an evening of expressive depth, virtuosic performance, and compelling new music from one of today’s most original voices.

Presented by the Barbican.
