Create Your Own Alphabet with Tim Brookes

Voiced: The Festival for Endangered Languages

An array of colourful letterforms on a black background

Get creative with alphabets! Design your own writing system in this imaginative, hands-on workshop with Endangered Alphabets founder Tim Brookes.

Half the world’s alphabets currently in use have been invented by someone for their community - now it’s your turn. In this playful and thought-provoking workshop, writer and educator Tim Brookes invites you to design your own writing system. Whether your first language is English, Bengali, Farsi or Welsh, you’ll follow a few simple rules to create something truly original. Bring whatever you like to write on - paper, tablet, pencil or marker - and explore how writing can reflect identity and imagination.

The most inventive alphabets will be featured on the Endangered Alphabets Project website. No prior design or language experience needed - just curiosity and creativity.

Duration: 2h

Multi-buy: £15
Book both workshops on Sun 12 Oct at the same time at a discounted price.
