Shayda (15)

Shayda and her six year old daughter find refuge in an Australians women's centre, until her ex-husband arrives, in Noora Niasari's powerful debut.

Winning World Cinema Dramatic at Sundance, Noora Niasari's powerful drama is full of hope, love and community, and focusses on the small wins that can make up a fight for freedom.

Having left Iran, Shayda and Mona begin to form a new life for themselves in Australia, free from Mona's father. As they prepare to celebrate the Persian New Year, Shayda's ex-husband arrives, jeopardising their peace and freedom.

A film that sheds some light on the injustices women face in Iran and around the world, Shayda is a quietly powerful film about fighting for yourself and your family, and seeking shelter amongst the storm.

Starring Zar Amir Ebrahimi, Leah Purcell and Mojean Aria.
