Jerome Hiler (born March 27, 1943) is an American experimental filmmaker and painter. Part of the New American Cinema Movement, Hiler started screening his films publicly in the late 1990s in San Francisco.

Featuring New Shores (1971-87) and In the Stone House (2012), this event offers a rare glimpse into the artistry and contemplative vision of one of avant-garde cinema's most distinctive voices.

Hiler’s artistry lies in his ability to blend everyday moments with meditative, often haunting, imagery, offering viewers a profound exploration of personal and temporal transitions. With a delicate balance of rural tranquillity and urban interludes, Hiler documents everyday life.

New Shores stands as a companion piece to In the Stone House, weaving together footage spanning over a decade. This film, shot between 1971 and 1987, takes us on a cross-country journey to the West Coast of the USA, reflecting Hiler's move and settling there. It concludes with a poignant return to the "stone house" in rural New Jersey, encapsulating the cyclical nature of life and memory.

In the Stone House chronicles a transformative four-year period in the late 1960s, where Hiler and Nathaniel Dorsky retreated from the bustling New York art scene to a rural haven in New Jersey. This film captures their search for a simpler, more spiritual existence, juxtaposed with frequent visits from their urban friends.

Hiler’s Bolex camera captures the essence of new beginnings—new landscapes, new communities, and the interplay of beauty, dread, and death. This film is a series of episodic glimpses into the complexities of adjusting to a new environment while grappling with lingering fears and nostalgic recollections.
