Bach B Minor Mass

Philippe Herreweghe directs Collegium Vocale Gent in Bach’s glorious Mass in B minor, joined by outstanding soloists Dorothee Mields, Hana Blažíková, Alex Potter, Guy Cutting and Johannes Kammler.

Bach wrote his B minor Mass towards the end of his life as a kind of compendium of his vocal writing, establishing his legacy with a vast and texturally varied Mass that shows off every facet of his skill and invention, while also reflecting his devout faith. From imposing fugal writing to caressing solos and triumphant choruses, this is music of exquisite beauty and profound depth.

Philippe Herreweghe and Collegium Vocale Gent are renowned for their intimate, sensitive interpretations of Bach’s music: ‘what separates Herreweghe’s approach from other early music groups is his absolute commitment to the quality of sound, above all the purity of sound. He has an ideal sonority for this music in his mind and has gathered the singers and players that can implement this’ (Bachtrack).

This performance will finish at approximately 9.50pm, including a 20-minute interval
