Bushman [4k Restoration] (12A)

A young student from Nigeria moves to San Francisco to be met with a full blown clash of cultures, in this international arthouse from 1971.

With a sensitivity fit of Jean Luc Godard and a crystal clarity that evokes the prose of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the 1971 film Bushman has been restored for a modern cinema experience.

In the turmoil of 1968, following the recent death of Martin Luther King, Gabriel (played by Paul Eyam Nzie Okpokam) moves from Nigeria to San Francisco for his studies. Bushman follows his experience of acclimatising to the States, and calls attention to the anomolies and contradictions of American ideology.

A stunningly made and lyrically written film, Bushman is as poignant now in the light of our recent socio-political temperatures as it was during its release 50 years ago.
