St John Passion

Britten Sinfonia

Some of the member of Britten Sinfonia on the Barbican stage

An artistic and musical feat like no other: Britten Sinfonia perform J S Bach’s remarkable Passion oratorio on Good Friday

Bach's St John Passion brings together elements of the Lutheran liturgy, operatic arias, theatrical choruses and meditative chorales which gave the congregation an active role in reflecting on the unfolding drama. Britten Sinfonia is joined by a group of exciting young soloists and the Choir of Merton College, Oxford, who appear as high priests, soldiers and the baying mob, and also as us, the congregation.

This performance will end at approximately 8.10pm, including a 20-minute interval.
