Visual Viscera: Embodied Subjectives (12A) (LC)

Still from Bodies in Dissent

A compilation of films, selected by Associate Artist Abbas Zahedi, as part of the Age of Many Posts public programme, for the Barbican’s Postwar Modern exhibition.

Featuring work by Ufuoma Essi, Bassam Al-Sabah, Rouzbeh Akhbari and Doireann O'Malley. This selection reflects Zahedi’s own understanding of moving-image, as an embodied subjective experience, for both the viewer and the filmmaker; something which can no longer be taken for granted, as we learn how to live through an ongoing pandemic alongside a sense of multiplying physical and digital crises.

The included films all play with the language of film to reflect on how our engagements with digital media shape both our sense of the present and potential futures. In doing so these films attempt to discover and promote a renewed sense of trust in visual media, one defined by physical bonds of connection and care.
