Paul Lewis

A 50th Birthday Celebration

Paul Lewis standing in some blurred out reeds

Join us to celebrate one of the greatest pianists our country has ever produced, in a birthday recital bookended by the repertoire for which he is most well-known and loved: Beethoven sonatas.

‘With his deep concentration, sheer musicality and welcome absence of unshowy gestures, Lewis seems to have this uncanny knack of making you feel that he is letting you into a secret’ (Bachtrack). Well it’s no secret that wowing audiences with his Beethoven is bread and butter to Paul Lewis, but it’s Sibelius and Chopin that we’ll be hearing with fresh ears under his expert guidance.

It’s always exciting to stop and celebrate such a distinguished musician, but even more so when you know there’s still so much more to come. An admired guardian of the past with an eye on the future; this concert offers a microcosm of a glorious career so far. Here’s to another 50 years.

This performance will finish at approximately 9.45pm, including a 20-minute interval
