Caterina Barbieri

+ Nexcyia

Artistic, abstract shot of Caterina Barbieri in blue light

A voyage to inner-space – Italian composer and musician Caterina Barbieri presents an evening of transcendental electronica with her Spirit Exit live show.

Working primarily with a modular synth rig, Barbieri composes with a minimalist sensibility, tying melodic figures in knots to create something densely layered and enveloping. New textures have been seamlessly introduced to her practice, including strings, guitar and her own voice, often processed through an arsenal of effects.

Written during lockdown, Spirit Exit responds to the isolation of Covid by forging vast internal worlds, taking inspiration from St. Teresa D'Avila's 16th century mystical text The Interior Castle; the metaphysical poetry of Emily Dickinson and the posthuman theories of philosopher Rosi Braidotti. Released on her own label light-years, it’s her most profound music to date, building on 2017's Patterns of Consciousness and 2019’s Ecstatic Computation. S
ound artist and ambient musician, Nexcyia opens the show.
