Bach's Christmas Oratorio

Britten Sinfonia

Trumpeters from Britten Sinfonia playing their instruments

Britten Sinfonia, Polyphony and Stephen Layton come together for a glorious seasonal celebration of Bach's festive masterpiece, featuring a handpicked cast of twelve specialist solo singers.

J S Bach’s Christmas Oratorio is one of the choral masterpieces of the Baroque era. Originally intended to be performed over six days between Christmas and Epiphany, Parts one, two, three and six explore the Birth of Jesus, the annunciation to the shepherds, and the adoration of the shepherds.

Britten Sinfonia joins forces with the professional voices of Polyphony and renowned baroque choral director Stephen Layton for what promises to be a thrilling, spiritual experience. A cast of stunning young Bach soloists will form the chorus, stepping out for Bach’s glorious solos and duets.

This performance will finish at approximately 10pm, including a 20-minute interval.
