The Stranger (Al Garib) (15*)

Palestine Film Festival 2021

Still from The Stranger/Al Garib of man with horse

In a small village in the occupied Golan Heights an unlicensed doctor is going through an existential crisis.

In a small village in the Golan Heights, Adnan, an unlicensed doctor, is going through an existential crisis. Broken down by the pressures of living under occupation and a looming war, he is desperate not to follow in his father's footsteps. Overturning all community expectations in times of war and national crisis, he ventures forth to meet his newly found destiny.

Shot on location, the heavy silence and misty landscape push the narrative to its emotional heights. Al Garib (The Stranger) is an accomplished debut feature film by director Ameer Fakher Eldin. Starring two of Palestine's most celebrated performers, Ashraf Barhoum and Mohamed Bakri, as the distant patriarch, this slow burn drama marks the entry of a promising and unmissable cinematic talent.
