LSO/Rattle: Das Lied von der Erde

Live from the Barbican

Contemplate the brief, boundless joy of life and the looming spectre of death in Mahler’s hugely poignant song cycle – a work every bit as epic in size and scope as his monumental symphonies.

Mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená and tenor Andrew Staples join the LSO and Sir Simon Rattle, who give their first performance here in over a year. Together they will take you on Mahler’s deeply personal journey. Written in the final years of his life and following the tragic death of his daughter, Mahler wrestles with the transience of life; contrasting moments of vivacity and happiness with deep introspection and melancholy through some of his most beautiful symphonic writing.

This livestream will be available to watch back until Tue 11 May at 8pm. You can buy a ticket up until this point.
