Emmy the Great presents new album April/Yuet Yam, as part of her curated series celebrating the mid-Autumn Moon Festival.

April/Yuet Yam is an evolution of Emmy’s sound: swirling, strummed melodies juxtaposed with often darkly sharp lyrics that catch the listener off-guard – all delivered with a clear, softly precise vocal. The album details how Emmy the Great’s life changed under the glow of the Mid-Autumn moon, during a period of peace in pre-protest Hong Kong. The Moon Festival celebrates Chang-E, the goddess in the moon: who ascends to the moon, defying her tyrant husband and drinks his elixir of immortality to free China from his dictator-like rule.

Performance followed by a panel discussion centred around mythology, the moon and the power of intuition with authors Rowan Hisayo-Buchanan and Jessica Lee.

Approximate running time: 2 hours 1 minute including panel discussion

Produced by the Barbican
