Henry Glassie: Field Work (PG*)

Cinema On Demand

Henry Glassie sit in his office surrounded by artifacts

This fascinating observational documentary explores the life work of American anthropologist and folklorist, Henry Glassie

Henry Glassie’s subject is folklore, but his longstanding love for the people who create it resonates throughout the film. The director invites us to experience Glassie's methods for ourselves, focusing on the artists as create their work.

From the potters, sculptors, metal workers, gilders and painters of sacred art in Brazil, to the ceramic masters and the women rug makers and weavers of Turkey, and the story tellers and singers of Ballymenone on the Northern Irish border. This film encompasses this hypnotic work, the way Glassie observes and documents and what continues to motivate him to this day.
