Goldberg Variations

Australian Chamber Orchestra

Australian Chamber Orchestra 2019

There are as many ways to unlock the miracles of Bach’s Goldberg Variations as there are performers – and when those performers are Tognetti and the ACO, the possibilities grow exponentially.

Richard Tognetti and the Australian Chamber Orchestra begin their Milton Court residency with a bold new approach to Bach. In one sense, it’s business as usual for Tognetti and his band – if anything is ever ‘as usual’ with the ACO. ‘Standing to perform, swaying exuberantly, the fiddlers’ bows flamboyantly flourished at every final cadence, this orchestra exudes an energy that, in fast and loud passages becomes almost feral in its ferocity’ wrote The Times during their 2018 residency. They’ll confront the Goldbergs as fearlessly as Bach himself.

The concert will finish at approximately 9.35pm and will include a twenty-minute interval.

‘What couldn’t be doubted, as it never can with this fabulous band, is the commitment and panache of every morsel of the playing.‘
