At Eternity's Gate (12A)

Willem Dafoe as Vincent Van Gogh looking to camera

Named after one of the final portraits Van Gogh would paint, an Oscar-nominated Willem Dafoe rises to the painter’s fragility, ferocity and brilliance.

Painter-turned-director Julian Schnabel brings an artist’s sensibility to his now third biopic (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Basquiat), turning focus to the final years of Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh’s life and work.

On a swan-song creative odyssey in the south of France, Willem Dafoe embodies Vincent as he immerses himself in the natural world, prolifically turning out now-beloved masterworks whilst struggling to make sense of himself and his deteriorating mental health. A fittingly impressionistic portrait of the vivacity and genius of a tortured soul, with supporting turns from Oscar Isaac as Paul Gaugain, Mads Mikkelsen and Rupert Friend.
