Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar

Darbar Festival 2018

Wasifuddin Dagar

Transport yourself to India with a performance of the country's most evolved music, dhrupad singing by Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar.

As a member of the esteemed Dagar family, Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar represents the 20th generation of an unbroken chain of dhrupad singers. Traditionally his family perform dhrupad as a duet, but Dagar successfully presents the dynamic of a duet as a solo performer. Dhrupad is widely considered one of the most demanding forms of Indian singing involving tremendous voice control, and strict adherence to the rules of expression, but Dagar takes it in his stride – a consummate performer. For this special morning concert he will be joined by Sukha Munde on the pakhwaj.

This performance will begin promptly at the advertised start time and is expected to finish by 1pm – subject to change.

Presented by Darbar in partnership with Barbican
