Preview: Generation Wealth (18) + recorded ScreenTalk with Lauren Greenfield

Generation Wealth

Lauren Greenfield’s postcard from the edge of the American Empire captures a portrait of a materialistic, image-obsessed culture.

For the past 25 years, acclaimed photographer and filmmaker Lauren Greenfield (The Queen of Versailles) has travelled the world, documenting a vast range of cultural movements and moments. Yet, after so much seeking, she realised that much of her work pointed at one uniting phenomenon: wealth culture.

Generation Wealth  pieces together her life's work for an incendiary investigation into the pathologies that have created the richest society the world has ever seen. Spanning consumerism, beauty, gender, body commodification, and aging, Greenfield has created a cautionary tale about a culture heading straight for the cliff's edge.

Simultaneously personal journey and historical essay, the film bears witness to the global boom–bust economy, the corrupted American Dream, and the human costs of late stage capitalism, narcissism, and greed.

The screening is followed by an exclusive recorded Q&A with director Lauren Greenfield hosted by journalist Kate Muir.
