Emerson String Quartet

Emerson String Quartet 2018 group photo

Some ensembles just attract superlatives. ‘With musicians like this there must be some hope for humanity’ wrote The Times of the Emerson Quartet. Hear them play music at the heart of their repertoire.

Over four decades, this great American quartet has become a byword for clarity, precision and interpretative insight. Their Beethoven has long been unequalled, but it’ll be fascinating to hear what they have to say in Shostakovich’s Eighth Quartet, dedicated to ‘the victims of fascism and war’ – to say nothing of Britten’s Third, inspired by a vision of Venice cloaked in mist, and one of the last things he ever wrote.

The performance is expected to finish around 9.30pm, including a 20 minute interval.
