Constructing Voices

Young Creatives on Change

Constructing voices

A free exhibition curated by our young creatives that explores the creation of art

Questioning our tendency to focus on finished products, Constructing Voices subverts a more traditional exhibition format and examines the steps taken in the creation of written word. The show, curated by the Young Visual Artists, pays closer attention to the processes and practices that feed the work, using both new and archive pieces from the Barbican Young Poets. Photography, created by the Barbican Young Photographers, establishes a visual dialogue between the written word, performed sound and captured image. The exhibition serves as a celebration of 10 years of the Barbican Young Poets programme.

Young Poets, Young Photographers and the Young Visual Arts Group are some of the many free programmes offered to young creatives to develop their skills with the help of industry professionals and a growing community of creative peers.

Part of the Barbican’s 2018 season The Art of Change that explores how the arts respond to, reflect and potentially effect change in the social and political landscape.
