The Tango Lesson + introduction by Sophie Mayer (PG)

A still from Sally Potter's The Tango Lesson

A special 20th anniversary 35mm presentation of Sally Potter’s feminist masterpiece exploring dance, passion and the struggle of leading and following.

Faced with writer’s block when preparing her new project, filmmaker Sally (Potter, playing herself) travels to Paris, where she discovers and becomes entranced with the tango. Dissatisfied with the writing process, she enrols herself in tango lessons with Pablo Verón (in his screen debut, also playing a version of himself). Together, they strike a bargain: if he makes her a tango dancer, she will make him a movie star.

A film of electrifying passion, which Sally Potter directed, produced, starred in and for which she partially composed the score.

UK/France/Argentina/Germany 1997 100 min 35mm
