Laura Cannell: Modern Ritual

Modern Ritual Logo

Experimental musician Laura Cannell presents a night of new performances that explore the idea of ritual through music and words.

This Heat drummer Charles Hayward presents 30 MINUTE SNARE DRUM ROLL, an improvisational piece that sees him develop a rudimental drum technique into something more complex. The night’s curator, Laura Cannell, subverts our preconceptions of familiar instruments by playing two recorders simultaneously and deconstructing her violin to create otherworldly soundscapes. And we also welcome Hoofus – an electronic composer who produces music of eerie wonder, where oscillating melodic loops meld with distorted rhythms.

On top of the music there will also be a performance/talk from Jennifer Lucy Allan tracing the rhythmic history of the Foghorn and musings from The Quietus co-founder Luke Turner on urban forests, family, death and sexuality, as well as a new collaboration involving all of the artists and invited guests.

‘The evening is about giving artists the space to try something new‘
