Martin Hayes with Brooklyn Rider

Martin Hayes sat in the middle of Brooklyn Rider

The worlds of traditional Irish Folk and Contemporary New York Classical meet in this new collaboration between fiddler Martin Hayes (from The Gloaming) and string quartet Brooklyn Rider.

This musical alliance is grounded in Irish tradition, but looks to the future for inspiration – classic tunes from the Old Country given innovative new arrangements by the quartet; with the repertoire for the show drawn from a forthcoming collaborative album, where traditional melodies are given new depth by five exemplary players.

Martin Hayes is widely regarded as one of the most talented musicians operating in the world of Irish music today. His versions of well-known songs and his diverse range of collaborations – including his place in Folk supergroup The Gloaming – display a unique ability to represent Irish tradition in a wider contemporary context. Brooklyn Rider have been hailed as ‘the future of chamber music’ (Strings), and are equally at home interpreting the Minimalism of Philip Glass as they are the Pop Rock of Elvis Costello, or working with Iranian kamancheh virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor.
