Music for Royal Occasions

BBC Singers/Jeannin

Sofi Jeannin BBC Singers

The connection between composer and monarch is at the heart of this celebration of music for state occasions.

The BBC Singers and their Chief Conductor Sofi Jeannin are joined by the Academy of Ancient Music – an orchestra themselves at the heart of Her Majesty The Queen’s Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant in 2012 – exploring music from the pomp and splendour of Handel’s ceremonial writing to the solemnity of Purcell’s funeral music.

The mood of great state occasions has always been punctuated by the music of great composers of the time – the relationship between crown and favoured composers informing our understanding of history.

End-time to be announced nearer the event.
