Join Peter Chadwick, author of This Brutal World, for a photography tour of our Brutalist fortress.

Come armed with your camera or phone, as Peter shows you the best corners, angles and hidden treasures of the Barbican Centre and surrounding estate.

Peter Chadwick is a London-based art director, graphic designer, educator and author of This Brutal World, which was published by Phaidon in 2016. The book started as a personal project in 2014, using Twitter as a platform to share his passion for Brutalism and all things concrete,

Peter has given talks and workshops at the Hay Literary Festival, BBC Radio London, BBC World Service, Design Museum, RIBA, V&A, Grafik at Protein Gallery,  Clerkenwell Design Week, Chelsea College of Arts and more.

Building the Brutal

Photographer Peter Bloomfield was commissioned by the Barbican to document the final stages of building's construction. His beautiful images - which have never been shared with the public - capture the astonishing scale of the construction effort.

The Barbican Shop is located over two levels on Level G at the bottom of the Silk Street entrance ramp, opposite The Curve gallery, or can be accessed from Level -1.
