The Guildhall Studio Orchestra with special guest Mark Lockheart

The Guildhall Studio Orchestra returns with special guest Mark Lockheart for the first performance and CD launch of Days on Earth, his epic new work for jazz sextet and 30-piece orchestra.

This highly personal work is a culmination of many musical and life experiences and features a stellar group of UK jazz musicians. Lockheart’s many eclectic tastes are undoubtedly here, from cutting edge improvising and 70s funk to African Kora-harp melodies and Bollywood strings. Days On Earth is released on the Edition record label in January 2019.

This concert starts with a short set of Mark’s small ensemble music performed by jazz musicians from the Guildhall School.

Launched in 2017, Guildhall Studio Orchestra is the first of its kind in a UK conservatoire – open to students from every Guildhall department, whether classical or jazz. It offers them the chance to work side-by-side with professionals, and today’s finest arrangers, in the cross-genre repertoire that will become such a vital part of their careers.
