About The Magic Lantern
The Magic Lantern is the musical moniker of Jamie Doe, an artist dedicated to remedying the anxiety and fear present in everyone. His third album To The Islands was written during a tumultuous return to his childhood home in Australia after nearly 10 years away and explores memory and hope in a world of near constant uncertainty.
Musically To The Islands mirrors this exploration, working with a new ensemble from London’s thriving genre bending jazz scene, it draws on a wide range of sounds and textures, from afro-beat grooves, to solo piano, string quintet lyricism to narcotic late night saxophone jams, all united by Jamie’s instantly recognisable voice and inimitable song-writing style. To This Islands promises to be his most ambitious musical statement to date and is due for release later in 2018.
His first single Holding Hands was released in October 2017 and has been vocally supported by Tom Robinson and Jamie Cullum among others and second single Lydia is due for release on 23 March 2018.
"Gorgeous, beautiful, this stopped me in my tracks. Slightly surreal, in all the right ways" - Jamie Cullum, BBC Radio 2
