Rich(ard) Dawson – Delight Is Right

Richard Dawson stood in front of a wall of flowers

The time-travelling, shapeshifting Newcastle songsmith returns with an eclectic line-up of friends and favourites that encompass the glorious breadth of his influences.

Rich(ard) Dawson kicks things off on the Hall Stage, in duo with drummer Andrew Cheetham playing material drawn from recent album End of the Middle. Then, at the other end of the evening, Dawson reunites with Finnish experimental rockers Circle, with a history spanning thirty-five years Circle are among the most prolific, idiosyncratic and thrilling outfits out there.

Joining them on the Hall Stage will be: The wondrous gothic folk band ØXN – featuring members of Lankum and Percolator – whose sound exists somewhere between the traditional, the future and the eternal; plus The Hameed Brothers Qawwal from Bradford, performing a form of Islamic Sufi devotional music that stretches back over 700 years. More guests to be added.

The Barbican’s FreeStage (Level G Foyer) will also host a vibrant program of experimental music in the afternoon - artists to be announced.

Age guidance: 5+. Under 14s must be accompanied by someone aged 16 or over.

This performance may contain haze and strobe effects.

Produced by the Barbican in Association with Upset The Rhythm.
