The Unthanks at 20

Anniversary Special with Royal Northern Sinfonia

A portrait of all three members fo The Unthanks

Marking 20 years together and 10 years since their BBC Folk Album of the Year Mount The Air, they return with a concert filled with the folk harmonies and inventive sounds that defined their journey.

An evening of evocative storytelling, atmospheric arrangements and striking harmonies. The Northumbrian folk group are joined by the Royal Northern Sinfonia, conducted by Ellie Slorach. Blending folk traditions with orchestral textures, their music is intimate and cinematic, shaped by the distinctive arrangements of pianist and composer Adrian McNally

Their collaborations have included the BBC Concert Orchestra at The Proms, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band. This celebratory show with NewcastleGateshead's world class chamber orchestra, is a fitting way to mark 20 years of innovation and longevity that has earned them admirers including Michael Sheen, Maxine Peake, Martin Freeman, Elvis Costello, Martin Hayes, Mackenzie Crook, Dawn French and Phillip Selway.
