The GRAMMY-nominated surrealist blues poet and this year’s Artist in Residence brings her debut album, When The Poems Do What They Do, to our Hall.

aja monet follows in the long legacy and tradition of poets participating and assembling in social movements. Known for her fusion of poetry and music, monet's work explores themes of Black resistance, love, and joy. 

At this specially curated concert, aja monet performs her debut album, When the Poems Do What They Do, and is joined by special guests Yahael Camara-Onono (Balimaya Project), Sheila Maurice-Grey (KOKOROKO), Abdelillah Ouahbi (Arfoud Brothers & Sisters) and more. Released in 2023, When the Poems Do What They Do, received critical acclaim and a GRAMMY nomination for Best Spoken Word Poetry Album in 2024. 

As this year's Artist in Residence, aja monet also has a separately ticketed live reading and Q&A, and a workshop exclusive to Barbican Young Poets.
