BOULEZ 100

A profile shot of Cassie Kinoshi holding her saxophone in front of a concrete wall

Spearheaded by France’s flagship contemporary music group, the new, the nearly new, and a 20th century classic are stitched into a programme that explores slavery and the Caribbean experience.

Uniting dance, electronics, turntables, visuals, and the incomparable expertise of Ensemble intercontemporain, Mercury Award-nominated Cassie Kinoshi has created a new work exploring the work of Trinidadian-born painter, dancer and choreographer Boscoe Holder. It will resonate powerfully with Hannah Kendall’s potent collage-like meditation on the creation of the Plantations.

In Boulez’s centenary year the ensemble he founded present the glittering two-movement, three-piano Sur incises - a previous London performance earned Boulez ‘a rock star reception’ according to The Guardian. 2023 winner of the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition Nicolò Umberto Foron directs ‘The world’s pre-eminent ensemble for contemporary music’. (San Francisco Classical Voice).

This performance will end at approximately 9.30pm with a 20-minute interval after Cassie Kinoshi.
