Alice Neel: Close Looking

A meditative tour with Elisa de Grey

Self-Portrait painting by Alice Neel

Alice Neel almost always painted from life, sometimes over as many as 15 to 20 sittings. Join artist and meditation teacher Elisa de Grey as she walks us through the exhibition.

Neel’s paintings exude charisma because she learned how to see beyond a person’s initial appearance in order to capture something deeper of their character. In this special tour, Elisa de Grey will lead a series of exercises in the gallery to allow us to see the paintings in a fresh light.

As well as being a long time yoga and meditation practitioner and teacher in London, Elisa de Grey has worked in theatre for well over two decades. As a freelance performer, specialising in puppetry, Elisa has collaborated with some of the leading theatres and directors in the country. She also writes and performs her own work.
