Isata Kanneh-Mason

Take a trip down memory lane as pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason looks back in a nostalgic evening inspired by the imaginations and experiences of childhood.

Despite only being in her mid-twenties, Isata Kanneh-Mason brings a mature perspective to popular children’s tunes. Mozart’s playful variations on Twinkle Twinkle Little Star set us up for a spirited and playful evening, which also features Debussy and Schumann’s depictions of childhood scenes. Eleanor Alberga says of her piece Cwiceolfor, (an ancient spelling of mercury, an element that fascinated her in her youth), ‘I suppose the alchemy lies in transforming my childhood experience into a piece of music’.

Isata Kanneh-Mason is an artist already making enormous waves. The eldest sibling of the 'seven musical marvels' (Guardian), recipient of the 2021 Leonard Bernstein Award and now 21–22 ECHO Rising Star, Isata Kanneh-Mason is now an artist of international renown. We’re delighted to finally be able to present her solo Barbican debut.

This performance will finish at approximately 9.30pm, including a 20-minute interval

This livestream will be available to watch back until Wed 12 Oct at 7.30pm. You can buy a ticket up until this point. The live stream is available globally.
