The Juniper Tree (15*) + live poetry by Annie Hayter

A black and white image of young Bjork kneeling on the ground looking up

A young Björk stars in a beautiful tale of witchcraft in the wilds of medieval Iceland, newly restored and accompanied by a live poetry performance.

Based on a Brothers Grimm tale, this haunting fantasy, suffused with myth and magic, stars Björk as Margit, a girl whose mother has been burnt as a witch in medieval Iceland. Her sister uses magic to marry a shepherd with a young son, while Margit begins to have visions of her own…

Nietzchka Keene’s English-language film, shot in black and white, is unforgettably beautiful, with gorgeous scenes shot by the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and depicting the Aurora Borealis. This special screening begins with live poetry by Annie Hayter, inspired by the mythology, nature and landscapes of Iceland.
