Beethoven & Bjarnason

Los Angeles Philharmonic/Dudamel

Vikingur Olafsson reflected in mirror

The LA Phil launch their 2021 residency with a supercharged rendition of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony and are joined by Vikingur Ólafsson in a new piano concerto by fellow-Icelander Daníel Bjarnason.

It’s always big news when Gustavo Dudamel and his orchestra are in town. But if there’s one thing more exciting than hearing one of the world’s virtuoso orchestras with a conductor of Dudamel’s charisma, it’s the chance to hear them with the Gramophone award-winning Ólafsson, a pianist whose intelligence and almost supernaturally sensitive playing is rapidly achieving cult status. ‘Wonderful’ is how he describes Bjarnason’s music: this is the very first European performance of this newly made modern classic.

End-time to be announced nearer the event.
