Learn more about safety and security considerations during your visit to the Barbican

Enhanced security measures are currently in place at the Barbican.

As part of these measures only one reasonably-sized bag (no larger than 32cm L x 18cm W x 22cm H) per person may be taken inside our venues and all bags may be searched by a member of our team.

If you are visiting our Art Gallery, large bags and all backpacks, rucksacks and luggage must be deposited in the free cloakroom which can be found next to the gallery on Level 3.

We ask that, where possible, visitors avoid bringing large bags to the Centre. If you do need to check bags into our free cloakrooms, we suggest arriving early. All bags deposited will be subject to search and random bag searches are also in operation.

Please also remember that belongings should not be left unattended at any time.

Thank you for your understanding – we look forward to welcoming you to the Barbican.

J9 Initiative

The Barbican is proud to be a J9 venue. This national initiative aims to provide safe and secure opportunities for people to disclose domestic abuse and access a full support system. Staff at each J9 contact point are trained to signpost, advise and spot the signs of domestic abuse. Each venue has a safe place where people can access information and use a phone to call for further help. Look out for the pink J9 heart and find more information about J9 on their website.
