The Lost Words: Spell Songs

The performers from The Lost Words stand outside a house with a slated roof

This concert has been rescheduled for Wednesday 3 February 2021. Details including ticket sales will be announced this week.

The Lost Words is celebrated as a ‘spell book’, the writing rich with rhythms and imagined birdsong. A musical response, Spell Songs gathers musicians whose music engages deeply with landscape and nature to respond to the creatures, art and language of The Lost Words. From across the worlds of folk, jazz and further afield, they are Karine Polwart, Seckou Keita, Kris DreverRachel Newton, Beth Porter and Jim Molyneux.

Inspired by the words and art of the original book, each musician brings new imaginings, embellishments and diversions which are rooted in personal experience, a deep respect for the natural world, protest at the loss of nature or appreciation for wildness and beauty. The artists are joined on stage by Robert Macfarlane himself, as well as Jackie Morris, who will be painting live during the performance.

This concert will start at the advertised time and set times will be confirmed closer to the event.
