In Iceland, there’s no escaping the power of nature. Landscape is culture, and as the BBC Symphony Orchestra begins a day long immersion in the music of Iceland, a screening of the BBC’s classic 2015 nature documentary Iceland: Land of Ice and Fire sets the scene. It’s followed by an introductory discussion of Iceland’s musical heritage: exploring what it means to make music in an environment where humanity, nature and geology co-exist in an unbreakable (but sometimes explosive) relationship.
