London Symphony Orchestra/Tarmo Peltokoski

Rautavaara & Wagner, with Yuja Wang

Yuja Wang

Feel the energy of Rautavaara’s joyously rhythmic concerto, and journey to Wagner’s fantastical world of gods, giants and river-maidens.

Composed in 1969, Einojuhani Rautavaara’s Piano Concerto No 1 is packed with shimmering, gleaming beauty and unbounded joy, its percussive drive tempered by moments of astonishing impressionistic colour.

No less intoxicating is Henk de Vlieger’s orchestral distillation of Wagner’s Ring cycle, carrying us from the rippling Rhine through to this operatic epic’s final, fiery moments.

Star pianist Yuja Wang brings her superlative technique and dynamism to Rautavaara, and the LSO joins the young Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski for an unforgettable Wagnerian journey.

The concert will finish at approximately 8.55pm, including a 20-minute interval (timings subject to change).

Produced by the London Symphony Orchestra. Generously supported by The Huo Family Foundation.
