London Symphony Orchestra: Half Six Fix – Enigma Variations

with Sir Antonio Pappano

Sir Antonio Pappano talking to the audience in the Barbican concert hall

Kick-start your evening with a 60-minute Half Six Fix concert, showcasing two works by Vaughan Williams. Introduced by the performers, with screens in the hall to bring you closer to the action.

Friendship and love underpin Elgar’s orchestral work, written in 1899. Each variation on the main theme is a tender, often gently mocking, portrait of a friend or family member. The ‘Enigma’ or mystery surrounding the origin of the theme is still unsolved.

Elgar conducted the LSO in the premiere of his Cello Concerto in 1919, so this orchestra has a special relationship with the composer and his music.

This performance will end at approximately 7.30pm, with no interval (timings subject to change).

Produced by the London Symphony Orchestra.
