Visions of Ukraine

Explore Ukraine through the eyes of its filmmakers, from the silent era to the present.

Considering the cinematic archive as a way of preserving the past and making sense of the present, this season presents three screenings from various eras of Ukrainian history.

The programme includes Mikhail Kaufman’s symphony to Kyiv, In Spring (1929), a UK premiere of Maria Stoianova’s archive documentary Fragments of Ice (2024) where the personal and political intertwine to examine Ukraine’s democratic transition and concludes with a short programme hosted in collaboration with Sunny Bunny LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, dedicated to the Ukrainian queer community and its experiences during the war.
