Professional theatre makers, Dior Clarke and Rikki Beadle-Blair MBE, lead a lively and inspiring two-part workshop focused on writing monologues for stage and screen. Learn all the tools you need to bring your ideas to life through the use of character, dialogue, structure and your unique creativity.

This workshop runs across two days.

Dior Clarke

Dior Clarke is a British Jamaican actor, writer, director, and producer dedicated to amplifying underrepresented Black LGBTQ+ and working-class voices.

Screen credits include Baby Boy (Channel 4), Demon (Go Fish Films), Curious (mini web series), and Batty Boy (Sky Arts). Stage work includes How We Sing Our Bodies (Talawa), Yemi & Femi Go Windrush (Team Angelica), Boys (The Pappy Show), Gutted (directed by Rikki Beadle-Blair), and Passion Fruit, which he co-wrote and first performed at the New Diorama Theatre, later developing and co-producing a sold-out Barbican and Cambridge Junction run of it, directed by Rikki Beadle-Blair.

His latest screen projects include The Prince (Loquaciously Unfiltered) and This Love Isn’t Taught (Euras Films). He is currently performing in Daddy’s First Gay Date, written by Sam Danson and directed by Rikki Beadle-Blair, at Seven Dials Playhouse following its national tour.

Rikki Beadle-Blair MBE 

Rikki Beadle-Blair MBE is a writer, director, composer, choreographer, designer, producer and performer working in film, theatre, television and radio. Having written and directed 40+ plays over the last 20 years along with several feature films, shorts and tv episodes and series, he has won several awards including the Sony Award, the Los Angeles Outfest Screenwriting and Outstanding Achievement awards, plus both an MBE for contributions to drama and an honorary doctor of letters from the University of Warwick. Rikki’s passion for encouraging wellness, creativity and business sense in others has made a committed and effective mentor to a great many writers, actors, composers and directors around the world. As well as hosting the Annual UK Black Pride Event, Rikki has hosted Voguing balls around the country for the last 15 years.

Access information

  • Both parts of this workshop are in person.
  • It takes place in step-free spaces with an Access toilet on the same floor.
  • We do not have fragrance-free areas, though we encourage you to be mindful of how strong fragrances may affect others (allergies, overstimulation etc.).
  • The workshop aims to be relaxed in nature, meaning stimming and tics are welcome, there will be breaks during sessions and we aim to ensure quieter spaces are available nearby.
