Summer Wars [4k Restoration] (12A)

A young girl and a crowd behind her cheering

This second anime feature from Mamoru Hosoda is a genre-blending saga about a boy's effort to prevent a cyber apocalypse.

When timid math whiz Kenji is roped into pretending to be popular Natsuki’s boyfriend, he unwittingly becomes the target of a rogue A.I. threatening the virtual world of OZ, and reality itself. With help, Kenji must rise to the challenge and stop a digital catastrophe.

Against a vibrant rural backdrop and a kaleidoscopic virtual world, Summer Wars is rare multi-layered story that solidified the solo success status of the leading new-wave auteur Mamoru Hosoda.
