Simon Armitage Poetry Reading

Simon Armitage poses for the camera in front of a bookcase filled with books.

The Freedom of the City of London is given to people who have made a significant impact in their field, whether it be business, sport, diplomacy, technology or the arts. It is one of the world's oldest surviving traditional ceremonies and is believed to have been first presented in 1237.

Simon Armitage is the current national Poet Laureate (2019-2029). He is the Professor of Poetry at the University of Leeds and has received numerous awards including the Sunday Times Young Author of the Year Award and the Forward Prize.
