Motel Destino (18)

Karim Aïnouz's latest film of crime, lust, desire, danger and betrayal, set in a seedy motel in Brazil.

Acclaimed director Karim Aïnouz (The Invisible Life of Euridice Gusmao, Firebrand) returns to Brazil with Motel Destino, which premiered in competition at Cannes 2024.

Set on Brazil's north-eastern coast, the film follows 21-year-old Heraldo (Iago Xavier), who turns to crime to survive. After a gang hit goes wrong, he takes refuge in a neon-lit roadside sex motel run by eccentric Elias (Fábio Assunção) and his restless wife, Dayana (Nataly Rocha).

As Heraldo hides out and helps around the motel, simmering tensions and hidden desires surface, blurring the lines between trust and betrayal against a backdrop of heat, lust, and emotional chaos.
