Hidden Master: The Legacy of George Platt Lynes (18)

A topless white man lays on a mirror covered in water, staring at his reflection

This stunning documentary uncovers the lesser-known life of George Platt Lynes, one of the first openly gay American artists, from visionary director Sam Shahid

Featuring a stunning collection of George Platt Lynes photography from the 1930s-50s, we can see where his greatest passion lay: in his private work with the male nude. His gifted eye for the form, alongside his friendship with Gertrude Stein and Alfred Kinsey, cement his lasting influence over 20th Century artists.

Lynes' work - sensuous and radically explicit for its time - was forced underground in the 1950s and surreptitiously transported into the hands of private collections. Only recently has it been fully rediscovered and appreciated for the revolution that it represents - a man capturing his fantasies, and envisaging a future of freedom through his camera lens.

Be inspired by his ground-breaking work and join the ranks of Cecil Beaton, Robert Mapplethorpe, Andy Warhol and Jean Cocteau.
