Guildhall Symphony Orchestra

Joshua Weilerstein conducts Ravel & Tchaikovsky

Conductor Joshua Weilerstein standing in front of vibrant green background

Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G and Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony feature in a vibrant programme of colour and contrast performed by the next generation of professional musicians.

The journey begins with Jessie Montgomery’s Coincident Dances, which transforms the orchestra into an urban DJ, weaving together eclectic influences – from English consort and samba to Ghanaian mbira, swing and techno – to capture the multicultural energy of a New York City stroll.

Outstanding Guildhall soloist Xu Peng then takes centre stage for Ravel’s jazz-infused Piano Concerto in G – playful, lyrical and full of rhythmic sparkle.

With powerful, lush orchestration, Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony vividly portrays themes of fate, passion and resilience, taking you on a captivating journey from a sombre and turbulent opening to a triumphant and radiant finale.

We're delighted to welcome back Joshua Weilerstein, Music Director of the Orchestre National de Lille and Chief Conductor of the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, to conduct this concert.
