E.1027: Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea (15)

A drama-documentary about the extraordinary Irish architect and designer Eileen Gray, in a film that redefines modernist landscapes through through her eyes.

Set against a love triangle of jealousy in the Parisian art scene of the 1930s Gray builds her modernist dream house on the French Riviera only to be upstaged by Le Corbusier.

The house in question, E.1027 is a splendid modernist villa born out of the love between Gray and Jean Badovici. We see how she is forced out of her dream home by her male contemporaries, and her impact on the architectural world in this cinematically captivating film.

Beatrice Minger drew out this remarkable story and carved out a place for Gray, reclaiming space from men, just as Gray had to construct her own home, both artistic and physical.
