Can I Get a Witness? (12A)

A young woman writing

Marie Fleming’s near-future dystopian fable hides a brutal cost to humanity under flowery scenery, starring Sandra Oh.

In the near future, climate change has been halted, global poverty eliminated, and every species on Earth coexists in relative harmony. Humanity has abandoned rampant consumption and unchecked technology, reshaping society around sustainability and minimal carbon footprints.

People lead contented, humble lives. This balance is maintained through a radical global pact, a method of population control where people are voluntarily euthanised after turning 50.

Sandra Oh brings a compelling performance as the mother of teenager Kiah (Keira Jang) in Ann Marie Fleming's sci-fi feature. Can I Get a Witness? offers a poignant exploration of memory and the looming impact of catastrophic climate change.
